K. K. Baczynski Secondary School No. 2 is situated in the town of Elk, in the picturesque region called Masuria, in the north-east Poland. The school consists of the= General Education Secondary School, Construction Secondary School and Vocational School.

It is the biggest school in the area with an enrol= ment of more than 900 students and a very popular one with the local community. = It is known for its great, well-qualified teachers and a positive environment where mutual respect and individual responsibility are learned and practice= d. K. K. Baczynski Secondary School is committed to provide a strong foundation for lifelong learning by challengi= ng and guiding all students towards their maximum academic, physical, social, vocational, and emotional potential. Most of our graduates pursue further education at colleges and universities in Poland and abroad.

Currently the great majority of the school’s students attend the General Education Secondary School which specializes in: mathematics and computer science, biology and chemistry, journalis= m, art, law and languages. The school’s programme is redesigned to meet diverse needs of the student body, the local communit= y, the job market and to help students become self-sustaining members of socie= ty.

The school dates back to 1963 when the Elk Construction Company opened the first classes specializing in bricklaying a= nd plastering. It was a construction school alone until 1990 when a general education secondary school was opened.

Much is happening within the school. Teachers and students participate in various projects. The school has taken part in an international Socrates Comenius project. Many exhibitions are organized. The school and its students boast many achievements, such as top positions in various subject-oriented, construction and sports competitions. The school’s programme is supplemented by num= erous extracurricular activities.

The school takes its name after Krzysztof Kamil Baczynski – a= Polish poet who lived between 1921 and 1944. During the German occupation of Polan= d he began to cooperate with the left-wing underground press. As a member of Boy Scouts Storming Groups, Baczynski took part in = many sabotage actions throughout the occupation. After the Warsaw Uprising broke out, he joined the "Parasol" battalion. He was killed in action b= y a German sniper on August 4, 1944, in Blank Palace in the Warsaw Old Town are= a. In his poems and short novels, Baczynski demons= trated both romantic traditions and catastrophism. His= poems depict the brutality of war, and suggest that love is the only force that c= an effectively defend a human being against it.
